Technical Accounting

Managers of technical accounting have high risk jobs since SOX. Below is a link to a Manager of Technical Accounting job description which outlines the meaning of “implement and interpret technical accounting and financial reporting requirements”. The good news with this job posting is the support provided by “Treasury, Legal, Planning, Tax, Domestic and International Accounting teams”. This support improves the quality of accounting decisions since each area brings a different expertise into the discussion. http://www.careerbuilder.com/JobSeeker/Jobs/JobDetails.aspx?IPath=OCPC&job_did=J3H23369HDBZTXT5B02&;cbRecursionCnt=1&cbsid=8f3feb01404342da8ef714c2a45cb63d-217282922-RU-4

Accounting and Technology

Technology has changed the face of accounting. Entries were manually posted at one time. Because of the large number of manually posted entries, it was more difficult to find potential accounting irregularities. With computers it has become easier http://www.ecommercetimes.com/story/54295.html

No Job Is Worth This!

Sometimes we forget there are consequences for our actions. We hope somehow everything will be okay. It will happen to someone else not me. Somebody else should pay the price.

With SOX somebody else is paying the price. The person within the company supporting accounting irregularities.

No job is worth prison!

Accounting Irregularities Prior to SOX

As I read the story on the "Former McAfee Treasurer to Settle SEC Charges" I noted the accounting irregularities occurred from mid-1999 to July 2000. This was prior to SOX. My hope is we have all been educated and accounting irregularities will be less prevalent. What are your thoughts?

SOX and a Boyfriend

Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX) is "a United States federal law passed in response to a number of major corporate and accounting scandals including those affecting Enron, Tyco International, and WorldCom (now MCI). These scandals resulted in a decline of public trust in accounting and reporting practices." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarbanes-Oxley_Act)

As an accountant, I truly do not understand the impact of this federal law until it is fully defined within the courts. Therefore, I am interested in reading about corporate accounting irregularities and corresponding prison sentences. Only through understanding the accounting irregularities and corresponding prison sentences can I make the appropriate decision to return or not to return to the accounting profession.

For we all know what was once considered cutting edge accounting can now put a person in prison, hence, a new opportunity for a boyfriend (girlfriend). Not my idea of an ideal dating situation.
